I have spent the last few months stumbling around the website trying to understand things. One thing I did pick up on is the fact that most people just don’t understand where this came from. After the murders your friends and people from the community just didn’t know what to say but that we are sorry. Please understand that they just didn’t understand where to go from that point , it just tore them up. My talk of TV or videogames or music wasn’t to distract people from the murders, but more to show you that we all share one common culture and that Quincy / Keddie is not an island, but apart of the world we all belong too. Hundreds attended and it was standing room only. On November 7th, 1988 Dave Vanderspek was cremated and his ashes scattered by his parents. There is no gravesite to visit but there is a semi-permanent memorial placed at the San Francisco side of the Golden Gate Bridge. The local newspaper in San Leandro reported the strange death on Tuesday of the next week based on the odd circumstances but didn't yet know how well known Dave was in the local community and around the world Dave Vanderspek at a warehouse he'd been living in. What had been the sideshow curiosity at the BMX races with only mentions or a few pages here and there in the magazines came to have its own bikes, contests and magazines. At the time, there were a handfull of well known riders mainly from the southern California area. But there were other riders out there and as the sport took off, this new crop of riders came on the scene. One of the new stars of the 80's era was Dave Vanderspek. Also know as Vander, Radner and The Flying Dutchman (due to his Dutch heritage.) He was an all-around rider who raced pro, competed in skateparks, ramps, ground and street. The first to do so. One person that Craig fondly responds to as Casper …LOL …….Casper In 1945 Casper made his first appearance when Paramount released the short film "The Friendly Ghost." In this short film Casper had just given up on finding a friend, as he was walking along railroad tracks Casper said "its no use I am just a scary old ghost." At this point Casper was walking down the center of the tracks as you here the whistle of the steam locomotive. In the background Casper then laid down on the tracks with his head on one rail and the locomotive passed threw him. Casper, being a ghost, was surprise at first that the train did not do anything to him, then he was even more upset. The kids playing ball near the tracks became his friend and took Casper home.
