Motive

I have been trying to find a motive and in doing so I started looking at basics.

What’s important to teenage boys….. Girls , buddies, adventure , getting drunk (sometimes), bikes then cars as they get older.

As far as girls go, I would think it wouldn’t be much different the teenage boys.. But Tina was not a teenager yet.

As far as Sue goes the best that I can tell , all she cared about was her children… unless any of you can show me deferent , that’s how I will see her.

can any one add to this ?

Keddie RR - I agree with longtimeago that we have to keep our minds open. Motive is a hard one with this case, and we can not ignore the possibility of a "random act of violence." Obviously that happens. There are a lot of things that don't add up here. If Marty & Bo were after Sue, I think there would have been some physical evidence. There does not appear to be any. If it was payback for drugs, it got way out of hand. This would not be a typical payback type of crime. If they were after Tina, it doesn't make sense that they would involve the whole family. They could have waited until Tina was by herself.

From previous posts, it sounds like Valley Flyer has done some research on Marty & Bo's pasts and they had "beefs" before and after this crime. Valley - do you know what those "beefs" were for or about?

In addition, I believe the police had other suspects, that for one reason or another, were removed from the list (or not). Also, it is my understanding that the police don't like to make an arrest or tip their hands, until they know they can make the charge stick. If ever they were going to proceed cautiously, this would be the time. There is no statute of limitations on murder, so as uncomfortable as it is, I don't think the time is being wasted. I don't think the Sheriff's dept has given up and I do think there is a high level of frustration over the lack of clues and evidence.

Most of the research was done by someone on the old board, I can't claim credit for the criminal record search.

No, I don't have much at all on them before it happened. Does anyone know where Marty was from originally? It may or may not have been Oregon, but that's where he bailed to. I do know this, he supposedly did two tours, died in Portland, but is not buried in any of the Oregon veterans' cemetaries.

For Bo, it looks like he may have been from New Orleans, but it seems like he has never returned there since this happened. I just found a reference to someone serving at Holloman AFB by the name of Adam Boubede, that stated he was a native of Tampa. Bo's son, or nephew?

One other thing, neither Marty or Bo have any record in Sacramento County. And Craig told me that he had looked for Bo in the Federal system, nothing there. That postcard that Marilyn says she got about seven months later from Marty, from the Portland area, where he supposedly told her that "Bo" was dead, sure sticks out. May I ask, which "Bo"? Also, no the person did not indicate what any of their charges were. They may not have been too serious, due to the dating of the charges.

It may have been mailed from the Portland Area, but maybe he lived in Vancouver, WA which is like 5 minutes away. He may also be buried there, did anyone check?

Did Bo or Marty drive a Van? Were they in a Van that night?
I'm new to the board and trying to catch up.
I know some of the players and most of the story
but haven't seen the movie or read Dave's book.
Who does he think the main suspects are?

TooCloseToHome - There is a veteran's cemetary in Vancover. I know, because my uncle is buried there. My uncle did 3 tours in Vietnam. It's possible Marty is buried in the same cemetary if he is a vet.

I have found a different source that indicates that there is no Martin Smartt buried in any veterans cemetary, state or national. Of course that doesn't mean too much, because my father claimed to be a PHS, and he is not buried in a veterans cemetary either. Nor is my uncle, who suffered shellshock during the Battle of Tarawa and was in a vetrerans home the rest of his life. Doesn't mean much anyway.

A Lack of a grave site doesn’t say much … I once was looking for someone and then it hit me that a small box of ashes doesn’t need a grave site.

Are the last 4 of Marty's SS# 4477?
The social security death records indicate he was born 4/11/1949 and died 5/26/2000, last residence was Portland.
Incidently, if this is him, his SS# was issued in Arizona.

Yes that is correct, I guess is that he dident get a SS# untill later in his life because back then SS#'s were not common at birth
